Wellness Centre

Located at 27 Wee Waa Street, The Wellness Centre houses the Wellness Manager, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Dietitian, Drug & Alcohol Counsellor, Eye and Ear Health Workers, Mental Health Clinician, Receptionists and Wellness Nurses.

The Wellness Centre delivers several programs offering whole of life support and includes Visiting Specialists, Allied Health, support and Outreach Programs. The team has a Medical Billings Officer supporting all clinical areas of Walgett and Brewarrina.

Allied Health Services:

Diabetes Educator - provides diabetes and pre-diabetes education and Endocrinology support Services to Walgett only.

Dietitian - provides nutrition and dietary education services to Walgett only.

Australian Hearing provides audiology services to over 6 years throughout the life cycle.

HAPEE provides audiology and treatment services to under 6 years old and over six years old servicing Walgett, Goodooga and Collarenebri.

The Ear Health Clinician - provides micro suction, play audiometry, tympanometry and supports all ear health service providers.

Eye Health - provides optometry services and works in partnership with Brien Holden Foundation providing clinics to Collarenebri, Goodooga, Lightning Ridge, Narrabri, Pilliga and Wee Waa.

Occupational Therapy - provides support to those with injuries, illness or disabilities including NDIS and aged care clients.

Physiotherapy - provides support and physical techniques to help treat medical conditions and injuries. Physiotherapy does not do external WorkCover.

Podiatry - diagnose and treat any feet or ankle problems and services clinics in Brewarrina, Collarenebri, Goodooga, Grawin & Pilliga.

Psychology - provides mental health and social and emotional wellbeing supporting how people feel, behave and react.

Speech Therapy - evaluates and diagnoses speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders including NDIS and Aged Care Clients.

VISITING SPECIALISTS

Cardiology - Provides heart related consultations and also ambulatory ECG and BP monitoring.

Dermatologist - provides specialised skin services on referral by GP.

Endocrinologist - provides specialised services on referral by GP.

Linked specialists also include Cardiologists, Paediatrician, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT).

WELLNESS CENTRE PROGRAMS

Alcohol and Other Drugs (AoD) Counsellor - provides critical assistance for clients with drug and alcohol addiction in Walgett, Brewarrina, Collarenebri and Goodooga. The AoD Aboriginal Health Worker supports the AoD Counsellor. Clients can self-refer or be referred.

Mental Health Counsellor - offers support for mental health stresses. Clients can self-refer or be referred.

Wellness Nurses – supports all of the Wellness team including Outreach and also offers prevention screening including ABIs, 24 Hour BP monitoring, 24 Heart Monitoring, Echo Screening, Blood Sugar Monitoring and are involved in various research projects.

Outreach Team - provides access to health care services for clients at Collarenebri, Goodooga and Pilliga. The Team holistically delivers clinical and support tasks, community liaison, administrative.

Healthy for Life Programs

The Healthy for Life Team supports people to get their health back on track, particularly those who are at high risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke, cardiovascular disease and other chronic conditions. Working in the health prevention space through the life ages, the team delivers a variety of supporting health programs:

Community Garden - offers vegetables and fruit supporting our chronic conditions clients that is grown in Walgett.

Family Health - Domestic Violence - offers support for those experiencing domestic violence and related stresses for all age groups and genders.

Health Promotion - organises and coordinates community events including World Heart Week, Kidney Week, Aboriginal Children’s Day, Men’s and Women’s Health Week, Blue Tree Suicide Prevention, Skin Cancer Week and Nutrition Week, and school education programs Health promotion also supports health partnerships such as the Dharriwaa Elders Group.

Healthy for Life Dietitian - offers community cooking and food skills, school & community health checks, outreach clinics and one-on-one nutrition education.

Lifestyle Programs - includes Cardiac Rehabilitation Group, Fitness & Exercise Groups, Yoga.

Our Healthy for Life Team are located in the Healthy for Life Building.
