Doreen Peters joined the Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service Board of Directors in 2020.

A strong and proud Murri woman, born and raised in Walgett NSW. Her roots and connection to the country is Gamilaraay (Walgett) and Yuwaalaraay (Bangate) of the Gamilaroi Aboriginal Nation.

She is a woman of integrity and effectiveness when dealing with people from all walks of life. Her professional career spans fifty-three (53) years working in both State and Federal governments developing and implementing policies and programs around law, education, health and industrial relations.

Doreen is a strong advocate who works hard building positive relationships to improve understanding between government/non-government and community-based organisations.

She maintains strong links with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities, where her wisdom, traditional values and principles provide a wealth of knowledge and experience. Her strengths and quality are being a good listener; honesty, truthful, open-minded, tolerant and strong mediation skills, Doreen brings understanding and acceptance to all she becomes involved.

Doreen is an elected Councillor on the Walgett Shire Council. Voluntarily served as a Trustee of the Jimmy Little Foundation. Director of Nepean Community Neighbourhood Services Penrith. Walgett Country Education Foundation (CEF), Member AECG Association Management Committee (AMC) and Director Walgett Local Aboriginal Land Council.

Through her personal, professional and voluntary work she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to assist, support, achieve better outcomes for Companies she serves to maintain a high profile and integrity.
