Aboriginal Outreach Worker

This position assists clients to improve their access to health care services by

  • Undertaking community liaison
  • Undertaking administrative and support tasks
  • Providing practical assistance
  • Providing feedback regarding access problems

Whilst this role is seen as broad, it will allow the Worker to define the needs, identify the gaps and make recommendations to improve the program for the client.

Family Centred Primary Health Care

The Family Centred Primary Health Care (FCPHC) team provides fortnightly clinics at Goodooga and Pilliga, working closely with area health staff in these locations. Planning is underway to commence clinics in other towns.

Contracted hours are also available to provide the following services:

  • Counsellor
  • Drug & Alcohol Physician
  • Eye Health
  • Respiratory Specialist
  • Diabetic Educator
  • General Practioner
  • Oral Health
  • Sexual Health
  • Dietician
  • Ear Health
  • Podiatrist

The team leader of this program is a Registered Nurse (RN) and co-ordinates outreach clinics with the FCPHC Aboriginal Health Workers and contracted GPs, offering a comprehensive primary health care program focussing on chronic diseases conducted within the Shire of Walgett and surrounding areas.

Healthy For Life

The Healthy for Life (H4L) Program provides Aboriginal clients who are elderly and / or those with chronic disease with regular health assessments.

The H4L Team is led by a Registered Nurse (RN) who works closely with the Aboriginal Health Worker, offering support to the Doctors, Community Nurse and the Clinic Team to ensure that clients are seen by the appropriate personnel.

Exercise Physiologist / Dietician

The Exercise Physiologist and Dietician are part of the Healthy for Life Program and are based at WAMS, arranging clinics and educational programs across the Bila Muuji Upper Sector Consortium for clients meeting the ‘Healthy for Life’ criteria. The Exercise Therapy Room is available to clients to use once an initial consultation has been completed.

Podiatrists visit on a fortnightly basis conducting clinics at WAMS and providing an outreach service to Goodooga, Brewarrina, Collarenebri and Pilliga.
