To whom it may concern I was recently taken to Dubbo for a medical appointment by one of your drivers by the name of Richie. I would like to express my thanks to your service and also advise you that Richie was incredibly friendly , professional and helpful to myself and the other passengers in the car. not once did he show any signs of impatience when held up and ensured we were all comfortable on the trip, offering to stop at each town we passed through if anyone needed a toilet stop or a break. Please pass on my thanks to him.

I am a GP who once visited WAMS to work for a few weeks and have been returning regularly over the last 11 years. The landscape draws you in as does the welcoming feel from the community once you allow yourself to become part of it . Being able to give good clinical care to a community with complex medical needs is also part of the satisfaction of being in the great team that is Walgett AMS

I have been consulting at WAMS since 2009 and have made 23 visits as a dermatologist and sexual health physician. It is a pleasure to work at WAMS. The staff, both administrative and nursing, are pleasant, hardworking and efficient. The facilities are excellent and I know the patients are impressed by the service. Patients are referred from other medical services including Coonamble , Collarenebri and Lightning Ridge and smaller surrounding towns. The majority of patients are underprivileged and would not otherwise be able to access equivalent medical care. WAMS not only provides excellent medical care to the local Aboriginal population but also employment.

I have been visiting Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service as a rural outreach specialist over the last five years. My experience has always been positive. I work in a new clinical building with a large office with a separate minor surgery / procedure room attached. The office is fully computerised with digital medical records. The minor procedure room is fully equipped and allows me to undertake all my dermatological surgery requirements.
I am supported by friendly and efficient clerical and nursing staff. Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service is very well organised and in my opinion, is the ideal model for rural outreach services.
I enjoy working in Walgett as it offers a stimulating mix of patients. I see and treat all age groups and both indigenous and non-indigenous. I particularly enjoy working away from Sydney and experiencing a different style and pace of life. Patients are generally very pleased and thankful to have a doctor make the effort to provide medical support for the people of Walgett. I have never had cause to be concerned for my safety and always take time to be involved in community events when they coincide with my visits.
On my visits to Walgett I stay in modern fully furnished accommodation provided by WAMS. The quarters are nearby and have enough room to house a doctor and family if needed.
I would strongly encourage all doctors to consider rural outreach or long-term locums at Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service. I would expect the time spent in Walgett would be both professionally and personally rewarding.
